Movie #80 I Frankenstein

Frankenstein’s monster goes on a totally bitchin fight fest against a bunch of demons with the help of an army of gargoyles who are servants of god, but can he find love too?

It’s been awhile since I have watched a movie I found interesting enough to take the time to review but boy howdy did I ever find it in “I Frankenstein”. Little did I know going into this movie that it was a complete and utter satire of the dumber than a box of rocks action flicks that we tend to so easily forget these days. Filled to the point of overflowing with laughable quotes, poorly choreographed fight scenes, overly dramatic music and even more overly dramatic acting this movie keeps you laughing from start to finish.

I thought for sure I was going to hate this movie when I started, and for the first 15 minutes or so I did. But as soon as the line “My name is Leonore, high queen of the gargoyle order” I knew that I was going to be giggling all the way home and boy was I right. No single part of this story is ever given out through anything but exposition and long speeches. Every ten minutes max I would hear a line just like the one before that would cause me to snort with laughter, here are a few of my favorites. “Descend in pain demon!”, “I am a gargoyle, we ascend not descend!” and by far my favorite “ I, descender of the demon horde, I, my fathers son, I, Frankenstein.”

Even the action scenes during this movie where nothing but awful garbage. The special effects look like they belong in a Scy Fy channel direct to T.V. movie, the choreography was forced and clearly planned out taking any suspension out of the fight, and people had a tendency to just pop up wherever they wanted for dramatic effect even if it made zero sense in the current scene.

Watching this film as a comedy I would give it a 7/10. Its a laugh riot of bad acting and cheesy one liners that would be a blast to watch and do some home made MST3K with a few buds and some drinks. Taken as a serious film “I Frankenstein” hardly qualifies as a 2/10
