It’s been a rollercoaster of a day in the music scene, with the many conflicting reports on whether the music legend had passed or not, we have officially received word confirming the singers death.
The Family’s spokeswoman and publicist Carla Sacks has officially confirmed the passing of Tom Petty, Releasing this statement: “On behalf of the Tom Petty family, we are devastated to announce the untimely death of of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend Tom Petty. He suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu in the early hours of this morning and was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived. He died peacefully at 8:40 p.m. PT surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends.— Tony Dimitriades, longtime manager of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers on behalf of the family.”
Petty’s manager Tony Dimitriades also confirmed the singers death.
After collapsing at his home, Petty was transported to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital where he was reportedly placed on life support, TMZ had originally reported he no longer showed brain activity so therefore was taken off life support.
The music scene has truly lost a legend today, with his many hits such as “Free Fallin” , “American Girl” and “I Wont Back Down” , Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers had become a classic radio staple for decades.
He will truly be missed, rest in power Tom.
