Ikea has been leading the charge lately on environmental consciousness, vegan offerings and diminishing waste usage, especially in the past few years.
This week, the Swedish mega-brand joined the global fight against plastic pollution by committing to completely ridding the company of single-use plastic products from its stores and restaurants by 2020.
According to the Guardian, they also plan to eliminate plastic straws, plates, cups, freezer bags, bin bags, and plastic-coated paper plates and cups. Before that, they launched the vegan hot dog and added more vegan options. And today they announced, via Instagram, their plan to introduce vegan soft serve ice cream to the IKEA Bistro by summer 2020.
A recent report saw IKEA naming the planet’s “rising consumption of meat and dairy” as a global concern. In a press release, they said, “To do this requires rethinking and inspiring changes in lifestyles and consumption as well as adopting new ways of working. We are prepared to lead the way forward together with our co-workers, customers, and partners and use our size to make a positive difference.”
